PNMBR – Brittany

Today’s Proudly Not Made By Robots is a bittersweet one. Brittany has been on staff for two years here at the brewery, working part-time in our taproom. She’s been a beacon of positivity and kindness to anyone that has had a chance to meet her. We’re sad to share the news that she’ll be moving on to fulfill her more-than-full-time responsibilities at her current employer, Zangger Popcorn Hybrids. Nonetheless, she has a great message to share with all y’alls and we still want you to get to know her. We’re very happy for your success, B, and thank you for your time with us. We sincerely appreciate it!

Where did you grow up? O’Neill, Nebraska

What is your favorite SBC beer? It’s very hard to pick a favorite, and it varies from day to day. Yesterday my favorite was Wonder Twins, but today I’ll pick Vanilla Normal Breakfast. My favorite non-SBC beer is Pacifico.

What is your most memorable SBC experience and why? The most memorable was watching my husband, Nick, play guitar in the opening band at Scratchtoberfest 2017. The setting was perfect and the band did great!

What is one hobby you enjoy in your free time? In my free time I enjoy long nature hikes with my husband and two dogs, the more wild the better.

If you had a year to go on an adventure, where would you go and why? I would love to experience and explore the Mediterranean. I am interested in many different cultures and deep history that surrounds the Mediterranean Sea, and would love to learn all that I can of each and every one of them.

What do you like best about working at SBC? One thing I love is who I work for and with. My employers are some of my best friends and I love the dream that they pursued and the Scratchtown family they have built. My coworkers and I are very lucky to work for such awesome people. The other reason I love working for SBC are the customers. We are fortunate to have such neat people walk through our doors and share their time with us. It is an honor to work at a place that brings people together for fun times and great fellowship. (Editors note: THANK YOU Brittany! We are going to miss you tons!)

What is your favorite Star Wars character? My favorite is BB-8. Not only is it super cute, but it has my initials and my favorite number for a name. I also love how loyal it is.

What bit of advice would you give your 18-year old self? I would tell myself to travel and experience the world as much as possible, and to start right away.

What is one thing you would do to make the world a better place? It would be to restore and conserve wild land, for the preservation of life and biodiversity.

PNMBR – MEL

June seems to be the season of anniversaries around here. This Proudly Not Made By Robots feature brings us to Melanie. Today happens to be her three year anniversary here at Scratchtown, and we’d like to introduce you to one of the nicest, most caring persons we’ve ever had the pleasure to know and collaborate with. So, let’s get to know Mel!

Where did you grow up? Ord, Nebraska.

What is your favorite SBC beer? Silver Tongued Devil Belgian Tripel.

Think back to your most memorable brewery experience: where and why? The opening night of the brewery. Everyone was eagerly awaiting for Caleb to arrive with the official license. It felt like the community was realizing a dream (Editors note: that’s one of the sincerely nicest things I’ve ever heard. Thank you Mel!)

What do you do at SBC? Beertender, patron, admirer, collaborator (Editor’s note: Mel is 1/2 of our dynamic duo that coordinates and executes our beer suppers. We couldn’t do it without you!).

If you had one year to go on an adventure, where would you go and why? Someplace tropical and clothing optional, because it’s tropical and clothing optional.

Who is your favorite Star Wars character? Han Solo.

What bit of advice would you give your 18 year-old self? Always be aware there are two sides to every story. Black and white is a really nice ideal, most of life is gray. And love, anyway.

What do you want to be when you grow up? Someone who helps others find their greater calling and self-worth.

What is one thing you would do to make the world a better place? To fully embrace and teach others to find the good in one another and look for connection instead of division in all relationships.

PNMBR – JANET

With our third feature in our Proudly Not Made By Robots series, we’re (re)introducing you all to Janet. Janet has been with us four years now, with her anniversary date reaching all the way back to June 10 of 2014. Janet was our first hire, and bringing her on board was a sign of things to come at Scratchtown all those years ago. She’s been here since day 1, literally. Let’s get down to business and meet Janet:

Where did you grow up? Omaha, NE.

What is your favorite SBC beer? Favorite non-SBC beer? MMR Brown Ale. I enjoy trying brown ales from around the globe. My favorite non-SBC beer is Orange Blossom from Huss Brewing.

Think back to your most memorable brewery experience: where and why? The first day SBC opened, we drank with friends in a large group for the Chamber of Commerce after hours. Caleb had showed up with the license from Lincoln, and it was the day it all began.

What is your favorite SBC event? Scratchtoberfest.

What do you do at SBC? I work in the taproom and attend to customers with a smile and a little convo.

If you had a year to go on an adventure, where would you go and why? I would take my family on a trip around the world, never staying in the same place for too long, and immerse in different cultures.

Who is your favorite Star Wars character? Never seen it (don’t fire me). (Editor’s note: we’re not going to fire her, but we definitely need to have a Star Wars viewing with our employees. This is getting out of hand!)

What bit of advice would you give your 18-year old self? Being weird is OK.

What do you want to be when you grow up? The best version of me.

What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow? You’re weird, but I love weird!
